One
of WA's best boutique accommodation houses is found in the heart
of Margaret River. Basildene Manor, a National Trust classified
building, offers the last word in charm and elegance when visiting
our famous wine country.
The RAC five
star rated property, situated on 14 picturesque acres a few kilometres
from town, was built in 1912 and attracts guests from around the
world.
Today this imposing landmark home is beautifully renovated and refurbished,
boasting the most luxurious rooms and suites in the region.
Owners Gary and Julie Nielsen take great pride in the slogan for
their manor, "A Rendezvous with Heritage." This applies
both to the luxurious surroundings and the attention to detail and
service that guests receive.
The first owner and builder of Basildene was Percy Willmott, an
early lighthouse keeper at Cape Leeuwin. Percy resolutely set about
to build a fine home resembling a relative's grand country estate
in England. Granite rocks were quarried on the property and the
finest selected to build the magnificent walls and rare buttressing.
Inside visitors find superb local jarrah used in the staircases,
balustrades, floors, central gallery and main hall.
A visit to Basildene is a wonderful journey back into the elegance
of a bygone era, coupled with all the luxurious trappings of the
modern day. Come to Margaret River and find out for yourself! Information
