The first owner and builder of Basildene was Percy Willmott, an early lighthouse keeper at Cape Leeuwin. Percy resolutely set about to build a fine home resembling a relative's grand country estate in England. Granite rocks were quarried on the property and the finest selected to build the magnificent walls and rare buttressing. Inside visitors find superb local jarrah used in the staircases, balustrades, floors, central gallery and main hall.
