Ed Tomlinson
is no slouch at making award-winning white wines himself, therefore
it is not surprising that he has chosen the Chateau Xanadu
Semillon as his top Margaret River white.
The Xanadu Semillon has a long history of quality and was one of
the first outstanding white wines made in the region. Coming from
vines planted in the late 1970s, it has superb depth of fruit flavour,
elegance and a long lingering after taste.
It is consistently one of the best wines made from the variety in
Margaret River with its subtle grassy characters and lovely touch
of oak. It is a delicious, fresh, clean wine with very good regional
and varietal definition.
However here is a wine that, although it is drinking well now, will
reward cellaring by developing rich, mature honeyed characters.
The wine marries beautifully with seafood and poultry, but its superior
mouth-feel and complex depth are also an excellent foil for some
lighter asian foods. Truly a versatile wine and ideally suited to
that special summer lunch.
