It wasn't long before the vines surrounding the beautiful man-made lake were producing first-rate fruit. Some 15 years later the individually styled wines continue to improve with each vintage.

The wonderful Sauvignon Blanc is drenched in tropical fruit characters balanced with a unique regional grassiness and a hint of herbaceousness.

The popular Chardonnay offers up subtle melon, peach and grapefruit flavour complemented by toasty hazelnut-like oak emanating from fine French barriques. The Cabernet/Merlot/Cabernet Franc is rich with cherry and plum notes and is well balanced with fine oak overtones.

Not surprisingly, the Brookland Valley wines (the whites in particular) have won a swag of state and national awards and will continue to do so as the robust vines mature.

Undoubtedly the best place to view Brookland Valley is from the recently renovated Flutes Restaurant, the rather legendary eatery situated in the heart of the vineyard.

Cantilevered over the lake, it overlooks the glorious Willyabrup Valley and vineyards. The food is excellent, well priced and designed to complement the wine styles.

Malcolm says the joint venture with BRL Hardy will allow the winery to expand both in production and marketing ability. "One of our major goals was to enter the international export market," he said.

Apart from the extension of Flutes, plans for the joint venture include the building of a larger cellar door sales area and a state-of-the-art vintage facility. Twelve luxury villas are also nearing completion on the 95 acres of wilderness bushland surrounding the Willyabrup Brook, which burbles through the property and has been dammed to form the lake.

Strong advocates of the booming wine tourism industry, Malcolm and Dee have successfully captured the total Margaret River experience at Brookland Valley.

Excellent wine and food, secluded luxury accommodation, all set in a stunning pristine environment....What else could one ask for!
