After a six
month search of the Cape region which led them further south than
any established Margaret River vineyard, the Greens finally settled
on buying the former soldier settler farm at the Forest Grove location.
Ed has also
employed the services of two technically gifted young winemakers,
Chateau Xanadu's Jurg Muggli and Vasse Felix's Clive Otto, to make
the wines. There's definitely something to be said for science and
experience...and a cooler climate.
The Cabernet
Sauvignon is consistently a deep claret red and offers up a
dusty, complex nose of ripe cherries and smoky cedar. The palate
has sweet blackcurrant fruits with warming tannins and balanced
acidity. The wine can be drunk early or will cellar for between
5 - 10 years.
The Green Valley
Chardonnay
is another favourite with all the hallmarks of cooler climate growth.
It is a clean, well made white with subtle melon, citrus and toasty
oak characters. There is sometimes a hint of greenness (naturally),
a pleasant mid-palate softness and crisp acidity on the finish.
It is a delightful summer wine and marries beautifully with seafood
and poultry.
