Margaret River Regional Wine Centre
Summer

After a six month search of the Cape region which led them further south than any established Margaret River vineyard, the Greens finally settled on buying the former soldier settler farm at the Forest Grove location.

Ed has also employed the services of two technically gifted young winemakers, Chateau Xanadu's Jurg Muggli and Vasse Felix's Clive Otto, to make the wines. There's definitely something to be said for science and experience...and a cooler climate.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is consistently a deep claret red and offers up a dusty, complex nose of ripe cherries and smoky cedar. The palate has sweet blackcurrant fruits with warming tannins and balanced acidity. The wine can be drunk early or will cellar for between 5 - 10 years.

The Green Valley Chardonnay is another favourite with all the hallmarks of cooler climate growth. It is a clean, well made white with subtle melon, citrus and toasty oak characters. There is sometimes a hint of greenness (naturally), a pleasant mid-palate softness and crisp acidity on the finish. It is a delightful summer wine and marries beautifully with seafood and poultry.

"Abundance" - Penny Hudson

Ed Green has no intention of slowing down in retirement and has been spending more time at the vineyard of late. Due to his plot being in close proximity to the National Park and Boranup Forest he has often fought titanic battles with the regional bird life...Ed versus the Silver Eyes!

However, improved canopy control and netting of the entire vineyard is allowing the grapes to fully ripen before harvest, and we can only expect the Green Valley wines to continue to improve as the vines age.

From a project that began primarily so that the Greens could spend family holidays together, Green Valley has become one of the region's most respected boutique wineries and has a very bright future.
