FOND FAREWELL TO MARGARET RIVER WINE LEGEND

Begining It is with deep regret that we record the passing of Australian wine pioneer Di Cullen AM, founder, with her late husband Dr Kevin Cullen, of the multi award winning Margaret River winery Cullen Wines.

It was back in 1966 when the couple - he a medical doctor, she a physiotherapist — planted a trial acre that was never harvested following a favourable report by visionary agronomist Dr John Gladstones. In 1971, they planted four varieties on seven hectares of their sheep and cattle farm, and made their first wines three years later.

Mrs Cullen, the mother of six children, left her professional career in 1981 to assume the role of full time winemaker and steered the small winery to international prominence before handing over to daughter Vanya in 1989.

Mrs Cullen was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1999 for services to the Australian wine industry.

She died in March this year after a battle with cancer at the age of 80.

WINE CENTRE BACKS GOLF PRO

Begining If you want the best advice, go to a professional.
It’s a philosophy that underpins our approach to the wine business.

So it was that when a few of us needed some help with another passion – golf – we turned to Ken Oung.
After spending 30 years as an engineer, Ken recently decided to get serious. So he put aside his career and with our sponsorship, has embarked on the pursuit of golfing greatness as a pro on the tough senior circuit.

So if you need any help with that other passion – equipment, courses etc -- maybe Ken can help.

One tip we did get was Margaret River Merlot.
We’re not sure what it will do for our golf game, but Ken rates it highly, all of it. And he should know, he’s a pro.
