Like Michelangelo� Art, great chardonnay is a masterpiece crafted with care. The Artisans of MR like Virginia Willcocks, Mike Kerrigan, Robert Mann, Clive Otto, hand make their chardonnay with, planing, consideration, strategy and most of all love. Great care is taken with the terroir, pruning, feeding and growing before hand picking, fermentation on lees in oak and maturation in new oak for just the right length of time. Even the choice of bottle and label is not left to chance. Our heavenly chardonnay for Christmas is a cracker we think with 6 of the best chardonnays from MR at the moment.

1 x Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2010

Abundant grapefruit, fresh lime and vanilla bean combine with marzipan. Vibrant flavours of lemon curd, pears and citrus blossom persist and combine with a mealy, juicy, mineral acidity leading to a rich, long and complex finish.

1 x Evoi Chardonnay 2009

Hand picked, basket pressed, partial wild yeast ferment in French Barriques. this wine retains elegance, precision and length, the white peach and grapefruit flavours with complex nutty/creamy notes. Has great length.

1 x Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2009

An incredible complex wine with lifted bouquet of ripe pear, peach, savoury toasted almond and nectarine. Layers of fruit with subtle French oak. Intense purity of fruit with creamy pear, nectarine and peaches are the main fruit flavours that are seamlessly long with lovely natural acid finish.

1 x Moss Wood Chardonnay 2009

Rich Chardonnay fruit flavours, yeast characters from the fermentation process, smoky, spicy characters of new oak. Burgundian influences apply here, with ageing on lees for 18 months in French barriques, without stirring, with a significant proportion undergoing malolactic fermentation. All Chardonnay batches are barrel fermented in 100% French oak.

1 x Pierro Chardonnay 2009

This is a white of great finesse yet impressive power, tight structure yet generosity of flavour; ripe melon, peachy characters yet noticeable restraint and subtlety; an unctuous mouth-feel yet with taut, fine acidity on the finish. Expect the flavours to develop with a little cellar time.

1 x Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2008

Bursting with fragrant pineapple and lemon freshness, the nose gently releases its cache of wild barrel ferment characters. Luscious and mouth-watering, reflecting pineapple, custard apple and water chestnut, vanillan oak and almond flavours. Opens with complex juicy fruit and evolves to a tight acid drying finish, that carries the pristine and complex flavours for remarkable length.
